Was King Alfred the Great, great?!

Today 4AV have been writing their 5 top facts about King Alfred the Great. Was he great? We'll let you decide and comment below!

Did you know that king Alfred was born in 849 AD in Wantage.  Interestingly, He was king in 471 AD but he was only 22! At the age of four he went to Rome to meet the pope. Sadly, he died at age of 51 in 899 AD he is young at the age. Interestingly, king Alfred the great was buried in Winchester and there is a statue to commemorate

Was King Alfred the Great, great?!

Over the last week, we have been learning lots of facts about the Anglo-Saxon King Alfred. We have explored the different things he achieved throughout his life and decided if these made him great. Take a look at our blogs of what we think were reasons why he was so great. What do you think?

King Alfred was great because he ruled Wessex and at that time Wessex was the only Anglo Saxon kingdom not in the Vikings hands.
Alfred reorganised English army and navy to resist the Vikings successfully.

Anglo Saxon Launch Day!

Today in Year 4 we launched our new topic called 'Invaders'. We will be learning all about the Anglo Saxons in the topic and as part of it we all came in today dressed as Anglo Saxons and took part in many fun filled activities including bracelet making and finding out about the Anglo Saxon runes.
